The legendary "Cal 40" changed the course of yacht racing. There may be no more then a
handful of sailboats in recent history that can be called milestones in that they significantly influenced the way in which
boats were designed built and sailed. Without a doubt, the "Cal 40" is one design that fits this elite group.
Mindful Yacht Charter's recently restored Cal 40 "Secumptual III" will ply the waters of Wrightsville Beach, North
Carolina offering regularly scheduled day sail charters. Take this opportunity to experience the shear beauty of the
vessel and her effortless movement through the water. This is a "MUST DO" for any visitor or resident
of the Cape Fear Area in the summer of 2012.
We will probably not fly a giant spinnaker or surf a 6 foot wave as sistership "Calisto" is in the
above photo, but before the Cal 40 came along you just did not see photos like this. The advent of the
Cal 40 turned the yacht racing world upside down. Your Captain holds a USCG Master's license, has sailed ocean going
sailboats for 40 years, crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific under sail, and while he likes fast sailboats, he
is also a trained prudent sailor, with well honed navigation and boat handling skills. The comfort and
enjoyment of each guest on the vessel is always the crew of Secumptual III's only concern, along with a love to
see the vessel move through the water with grace and speed. Some groups may just want to motor in the waterway,
look at the homes, the astonishing variety of birds, dolphin sightings, or stop for a swim. The crew has no agenda
other then our guests enjoying their time while aboard "Secumptual III".
This is the Captain, messing with something at the base of the mast, while his crew in the cockpit is
trying to make him aware that he has a visitor sitting on the winch on the other side of the mast. This picture was
taken April 16th, 2012, about 20 miles offshore in route to Charleston Race Week, which was a blast, and a total immersion
into sailing, "Secumptual III returns to the race scene for the first time since 1978.
